Sizes + Finished Measurements

Hat circumference: 16 ½ (18 ½, 20, 22, 24)” / 42 (47, 51, 56, 61) cm.
Intended to be worn with negative ease. Choose a finished size about 1 ½-3″ (4-7.5 cm) smaller than head.
Depth, not including pompom: 6 1⁄4 (7, 8 ½, 9 ¾, 11)” / 15 (18, 20.5, 23, 28) cm.

Yarn

Bulky weight yarn; 130 (155, 195, 235, 275) yd / 120 (140, 175, 215, 255) m, including pompom.

Shown in Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Superwash Bulky (100% Superwash Wool; 137 yards/100g), in Indigo Heather.

Substitution Notes

Look for a Bulky weight yarn meant to knit up at 3-3.75 sts = 1” (2.5 cm) on 6-8mm (US 10-11) needles. A lofty wool or wool blend makes a great choice. Two strands of a sport weight yarn held together would probably work, but you would need to swatch to be sure.

Gauge

14 sts and 35 rounds = 4″ (10 cm) over Waffle Rib in the round, blocked.
