Construction

The sock is worked from the top down in the round with a round heel. The heel flap is worked in rows and the heel turn is worked in short rows. Stitches are picked up along each side of the heel flap and the gusset decreases are worked in the round. The foot and toe are worked in the round.

Sizes + Finished Measurements

Sizes are identified by number of stitches in the sock; 12 (16, 20, 24, 28)(32, 36, 40, 44, 48)(52, 56, 60, 64, 68)(72, 76, 80, 84, 88)(92, 96, 100, 104, 108) sts.

Depending on gauge, finished measurements range from 1 ½–27″ / 3–68.5 cm in circumference. The full range of child and adult foot sizes are covered in all gauges.

OTHER USES
Not all socks need to be worn! Socks make great decorations. Knit a 16-st sock with fingering weight yarn for a really cute holiday ornament. Use sock yarn remnants to knit a pile of 20-st socks for a winsome garland. To make a great Christmas stocking, knit the 108-st size with chunky yarn.

Yarn

Yarn + Gauge + Needles
Any weight, any gauge yarn. Yardage is completely dependent on the yarn weight, your gauge, foot circumference, foot length, and leg length.

The generous yardage specified is for a 9 ½” (24 cm) foot (shoe size US Women’s 9/Men’s 8, UK 7.5, EUR 41). Optional contrasting-coloured heels, toes, and cuffs require about 20-25% of the total sock yardage.

Note on gauge: stitch count is measured over 4” (10 cm), worked in the round, and after washing. Socks will last longer if they’re worked at a firm gauge, generally with a smaller needle size than recommended on the ball band.

Recommended gauge and needles:
Fingering weight 32 sts with 2.25mm (US 1) needles; 450 yd (410 m).
Sport weight 28 sts with 2.75mm (US 2) needles; 400 yd (365 m).
DK weight 26 sts with 3.25mm (US 3) needles; 375 yd (345 m).
Worsted weight 24 sts with 3.75mm (US 5) needles; 350 yd (320 m).
Aran weight 22 sts with 4mm (US 6) needles; 300 yd (275 m).
Chunky weight 16 sts with 4.5mm (US 7) needles; 225 yd (205 m).
This pattern may be worked using flexi/standard double-pointed needles, two circular needles or the Magic Loop method with one long circular needle.
