Construction
The oh-so-clever mitten construction involves intarsia and slip stitches to create the checkered effect and the cuffs are added later and worked in the round. You can make them as long or as short as you like.

Hand circumference: 5 ¼ (6 ¼, 7, 8, 9, 9 ¾) ins / 13.5 (16, 18, 20.5, 23, 25) cm.
Hand length: 3 ¼ (4, 4, 5, 5 ½, 6 ¼) ins / 8.5 (10, 10, 12.5, 14, 16) cm.

Yarn
Aran or heavy worsted weight yarn.
Shown in River City Yarns Epic Yarn (100% virgin wool; 194 m / 212 yds per 100 g ball). Our sample features: 1 ball each in Red and Black.
Substitution Notes
The mittens are worked at a worsted/aran weight yarn that knits up at 4.5 to 5 sts per inch (2.5 cm) on 4 to 5 mm (US 6-8) needles. Choose a yarn with some wool content for warmth.
Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows = 4 ins (10 cm) over Stockinette Stitch.
