Dizzy

$12 CAD

A fierce-looking sweater for kids with very tame vertical stripes, made especially fun with handpainted or variegated yarn.

The simple slip stitch pattern creates a dense and squishy fabric for a cozy pullover, eliminating the need for stranded knitting. Choose a variegated or self-striping yarn and pair it with a solid colour for a wonderful visual effect.

Construction

This pullover is worked from the bottom up, then sewn together after blocking. There’s no shaping around the armholes or the sleeve caps to create the drop shoulder construction. Stitches are picked up around the neck for the ribbed edging.

What's Included

This knitting pattern includes written directions, sleeve shaping table for all sizes, front and back images, and a schematic with measurements.

Sizes + Finished Measurements

Sizes to fit approximate ages as follows, with the understanding that every child is different and it’s best to determine which size to knit based on measurements and not age. The ease increases with the size of the chest measurement and is very oversized in the larger sizes.

Sizes: To fit 0-6 mo (6-12 mo, 12-24 mo, 2 yrs, 4 yrs, 6 yrs, 8 yrs, 10 yrs).
Finished chest circumference: 22 (24, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 36)“ / 56 (61, 66, 71, 76, 81.5, 86.5, 91.5) cm.
Length: 12 (13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 20, 22)” / 30.5 (33, 35.5, 38, 40.5, 45.5, 51, 56) cm.
Sleeve seam: 6 ½ (7 ½, 8 ½, 10 ½, 11 ½, 13 ½, 14 ½, 15 ½)“ / 16.5 (19, 21.5, 26.5, 29, 34.5, 37, 39.5) cm.
Intended to be work with 2 to 8” / 5 to 20 cm ease (less ease for small sizes and more ease for largest sizes); shown in size 32” / 81.5 cm.

470 (555, 640, 735, 855, 1015, 1160, 1330) yd / 435 (510, 590, 680, 785, 940, 1070, 1230) m solid colour;

Shown in Shibui Sock (100% merino wool; 191 yd / 175 m per 50 g).

Substitution Notes

Choose a solid/tonal colour and a coordinating variegated hand-painted or self-patterning yarn. The variegated colourway shouldn’t have the exact same colour as the solid colour in it, otherwise the vertical stripes won’t be clearly defined. Fingering weight and sock yarns will work really well for this project. Choose a yarn with simple care instructions.

28 sts and 40 rows to 4” (10 cm) over stocking stitch using larger needles.
