Lesson Plans

Noon-hour classes at Hana’s school have been taking up much of my time and energy. I’m teaching knitting, crochet and jewellery classes four times a week.

It’s terrific to see the kids being creative but it has been cutting into my creativity time. I need to find a happy balance between the two. Next term I won’t be teaching as much and I won’t have as much lesson planning because I’ll be able to use the classes I’ve already developed.

Jewellery is one of the new classes this year and it’s being very well received. Today we finished off turning washers into striking pendants.

I taught the students how to make paper beads and beaded rings.

One girl liked the necktie brooch project so much, she went to a thrift store on the weekend for more ties and made four more brooches. The girl told me her mother has proudly worn the first brooch to work.

By far my favourite project is this pendant made out of a penny. I found many of these project ideas online and in books in the children’s section of the library.

  1. These are great projects. The kids are going so well. I am really impressed with the jewellry ideas. I bet the kids love the opportunity you have offered them. Who knows, you may have planted a seed here that will blossom a few years from now.

  2. hi holli,
rose project in folded yummy fabric is great.
wonderful work you do at devan’s school.
yes one big effort is enough….slow down, take time for yourself.

i thought about roses growing on my balcony, & they overnite said…grow straight up, so if i buy a rose rose bush, they will not be topsy turvy.

with the website, & my response to questionnaire, i will try to tone down my feeling responses & be sensible in terms of the overall purpose being the study of demographics, new to me…bye, Y
