Day three of new pattern releases. For the first eight days of November we’ll be releasing a new pattern each day. Check back often to see more.

Grenadine is a mix of the old world pomegranate with new world knitting techniques, originally inspired by the gorgeous SweetGeorgia Yarns Pomegranate colourway and my love of pomegranates. I ate my first pomegranate in the Caribbean while on holiday as a child; later while traveling in Granada, Spain as an adult, I was delighted to see the pomegranate motif all over the city. And who can resist the sweet grenadine syrup when making pink lemonade by hand?

Grenadine is a sweet cardigan featuring knitting techniques borrowed from South American knitting traditions. The triangles on the hem are worked like Peruvian earflaps and mimic the sepals of the pomegranate. The cuffs echo the triangular form with smaller “puntas,” or points, another design element from the Andes.

The triangles, puntas and edging are all worked in garter stitch, as are the sleeves. The body is in stocking stitch. This is a roomy cardigan that can be worn over layers for keeping warm in the cooler months.
