Auspicious Beginnings

It is the new year—the Chinese New Year—and we just celebrated with a delicious meal at a favourite restaurant with my in-laws last weekend. At the end of last year I was experiencing some frustrations sourcing the perfect yarn for some upcoming projects. Either it was unavailable or suppliers weren’t returning my calls (busy Christmas season) or I was having gauge problems. Now it seems that the tide has turned and I foresee that the Year of the Ox will be a year of good fortune for me.

Regina

Two packages arrived at my door in the past week or so. One was a box full of balls of Regina, a wonderful superwash dk wool by Adriafil. I am so excited about this yarn because I’ve been searching for it for a long time. It fullfils my needs perfectly. It knits up to a perfect 22 sts over 4″ which will make it easy to find a substitute dk yarn at any LYS. It has a great range of colours (who wouldn’t want that?). The yarn is also easy care and it’s soft, so little ones can’t complain about scratchy sweaters. I have a new design or two in the works that will use this yarn and it involves knitting four sweaters plus some sample swatches before I can photograph and publish the patterns. I don’t want to give it all away just yet. More teasers later!

The other project I’m working on is hush, hush. Suffice it to say that searching for the perfect yarn proved much more challenging than I thought it would. I’m thrilled with the yarn the editor and I finally decided on using. It arrived the other day and the colour. Wow! The project will be published in the summer, but my deadline is the end of this month. That means I need to get knitting. Yikes!

Although I have a lot of knitting and pattern writing in the next little while, I see these two packages arriving at the start of the new year as being a very promising sign. Good things are going to happen this year. I just know it.
