Day seven of new pattern releases. For the first eight days of November we’ll be releasing a new pattern each day. Check back often to see more.
Goody, goody gumdrops – the polka dots on these cozy mittens are such fun. Go crazy with colour here and knit every row of gumdrops a different color, or be subtle with tone on tone. There is a size for everyone: babies to grandpas. Instructions for both traditional mittens and fingerless gloves are included.
I had such fun playing with different weights of yarn and this stitch pattern. My favourite combination is a heavy worsted weight single paired with a double strand of plied BFL in bright hits of colour. The visual texture just sings out for me. Although I call for DK yarn (held double) for the dots, they can also be worked in worsted weight yarn. This could be a great stash buster project.
The yummy colours are all the brainchild of Krista at Rain City Knits. She sells sampler packs of little “babycakes” in a rainbow of colours which were the inspiration for these mitts.
