Substitution Notes

The lacy stitch pattern is based on ribbing and wants to get long and skinny; choose a yarn that will hold its shape after blocking. In other words, wools like merino with a lot of elasticity and memory won’t work as well.

Gauge

Look for a yarn that works to 28 sts and 40 rows = 4” (10 cm) over stockinette stitch using 2.75 mm (US 2) needles for laceweight or 3.5 mm (US 4) needles for fingering weight. Refer to pattern Notes for advice on gauge.

Needles + Notions

3.75 mm (US 5) Needles for laceweight;
4.5 mm (US 7) Needles for fingering weight;
Stitch Markers (optional);
Digital Scale (optional; to alter size).

Skills

Working intricate lace from chart or written instructions, slipped stitch selvedge.
