I love how short rows can create undulating lines when worked in stripes; it’s fun to design using short rows. I have a blanket pattern in the spring issue of Knit Simple that makes great use out of short rows. The Short Rows Stripes Blanket is worked in six analagous colours in light and dark tones with a seventh contrasting colour that pops. Mock Cable Scarf

  Sixth and Spring books and Cascade Yarns published another book in their series of 60 Quick books last month, called 60 Quick Luxury Knits. I have a design in it! The Mock Cable Scarf creates the visual illusion that there is a cable running up its length. Instead it’s worked in a carefully planned juxtaposition of yarnovers, decreases and ribbing to produce the gracefully arcing lines. It calls for Venezia Worsted, which is a wool silk blend that was lovely to work with. It felt soft and silk always accepts colour so well. read more
